Jagannath puri Tour
The Jagannath Temple in Puri is a famous Hindu temple dedicated to Jagannath and located in the coastal town of Puri in the state of
Orissa, India. The name Jagannath (Lord of the Universe) is a combination of the Sanskrit word 'Jagat (Universe)' and 'Nath (Lord of)' and
also, the word "jagannatha" is evolved from "Jagati" (as an elevated platform of "Ratnabedi" on which the wooden form of Jagannath,
Balbhadra and Subhadra are worshipped on or the temple or its precincts inside the "Narendra Pokhari") and "Natha" (means "Lord"). The temple
is an important pilgrimage destination for many Hindu traditions, particularly worshippers of Krishna and Vishnu, and part of the Char Dham
pilgrimage that a Hindu is expected to make in one's lifetime. The temple was built in the 11th century atop its ruins by the progenitor
of the Eastern Ganga dynasty, King Anantavarman Chodaganga Deva. The temple is famous for its annual Rath Yatra, or chariot festival, in which
the three main temple deities are hauled on huge and elaborately decorated temple cars. Since medieval times, it is also associated with intense
religious farvour.
You would be excited to know that the Jagannath Temple of Puri has a latent associated with it. It is believed that in the Krita Yuga,
the actual image of the Lord had the power of granting 'moksha' to anyone who witnessed it. Yumraja didn't find this justice. So, he
decided to keep the image in some distant and unknown corner of the earth. However, as Dvapar yuga arrived, the odol that is worshipped
today in Jagannath Puri was constructed by Lord Vishnu with the help of wooden logs. And it doesn't make difference in Lord's power in
spite of having the hands lacking.
Jagannath Temple in Odhisha (Orissa) consists of four entrance gates. They are named as Singhadwara, Ashwadwara, Hathidwara and Vyaghradwara
and these names refer to lion, horse, elephant and tiger. Each day, the Lord at the Jagananth temple is offered 'bhoga' six times and it is
dispensed among the worshippers close to Ratnavedi.
